About Panchaud, Mello, Tatem, Guard & Breeden Families
Please sign in to see more.
On my father's side of the family, I am researching the PANCHAUDs, MELLOs and TATEMs. The PANCHAUDs were French Huguenots, who to escape persecution, migrated to Lausanne, Switzerland. The earliest record of that line I have been able to directly connect to us so far, is Samuel PANCHAUD, Esq. who died in 1815 at Charterhouse in England. Samuel's grandson, Louis Benoni PANCHAUD migrated to Bermuda at the turn of the century, supposedly jumping ship while a merchant marine. The MELLOs are originally from Sao Miguel and Pico, Azores. Francisco MELLO had eight known sons who settled where they could to make a living for their family. Some stayed in the Azores, some migrated to the United States, particular the New Bedford, MA and Brownsville, TX area and my Great-Grandfather, Antonio MELLO settled in Bermuda. The TATEMs are a very old line, originally from England, and one of the original settlers of Bermuda. The first known record of a TATEM in Bermuda is Samuel TATAM in 1611.

On my mother's side I am researching the GUARDs and BREEDENs. The GUARDs are another old line, originally from England also. I consider Alexander GUARD the patriach of the family. Alexander was born in either New Jersey or Connecticut and was a Revolutionary War soldier for Connecticut. After the war, following along the banks of the Ohio River, he moved his family, along with a couple of brothers and a cousin to the area now known as Dearborn County, Indiana. There they became a part of history, being one of the first pioneering families to help settle the wilderness which bordered the states of Indiana and Ohio. The GUARDs are remembered as very moral and upstanding citizens who helped begin the communties of Greendale, IN and Elizabethtown, North Bend and Cleves, OH. The BREEDENs are a challenging line to research. My great-grandfather William Edward BREEDEN was born in Scott Co., Kentucky. I believe he moved with his wife and son, Oakley, to Indiana around 1908. They settled in Dillsboro, Indiana. It is rumored that the BREEDENs are part Cherokee and there are BREEDENs listed on the Dawes Rolls, but I haven't connected them yet to our line.

Have fun exploring the website, as there are links throughout. The Photo-Tree is really cool to see. If there are photos missing and you have some, I'd love it if you would share. I'd love to have at least one photo for each family member. Check back often as this is a continuous work in progress! If you have any corrections please let me know either by email or through the guest book. If you have pictures to add, you can send them to: rienik- 7024@tribalpages.com Thanks and enjoy the site!
